Minehead to Porlock Weir 9

We set off from the official start on the sea front at 9.40 am and followed a level path through a nature reserve to begin with.

A fairly straightforward walk through woods up on to the moor top where we did a small diversion to take in Selworthy Beacon.

A level path across moors, we decided against the rugged alternative route, took us to a very steep downhill section  to Hurlestone Point and then along to Bossington, a lovely National Trust village with a delightful Grade 2 listed cottage with a tea garden full of birds. Of course you can't pass a tea garden without sampling a cream tea on your first day's walk can you?

Quite a relaxed day today as it was only 3 more flat miles along Porlock Marsh into Porlock Weir but hard going walking along the stony shore.

We had about half an hour to wait for a bus back to Minehead where we explored the old town and then had a light meal at The Apple Tree Tea Room just before it closed. Our first day was done and tomorrow we would be moving on.
