Minehead

Well, Margaret and I have decided to make a start on the 630 mile South West Coast Path. Who knows how far we will get but if you don't take that first step you will never know.
On 8 June 2015 we travelled by train and bus to Minehead in Somerset arriving on schedule just after 5.00 pm. We stayed at Kenella House B&B and were greeted by a friendly teddy bear each on our beds! Regrettably we had to leave them behind when we left.

It was a lovely warm evening and after refreshments at Wetherspoons we had a walk on the sea front. Minehead is perhaps best known for its Butlins holiday camp but we managed to avoid that.

These are Echium plants, a giant form of Viper's Bugloss which grow quite freely in Cornwall and it seems to be a very good year for them.
Minehead has an old part to the town and we explored a bit more of it after our first day's walk, climbing the steps to the church and then descending via an old cobbled street.

Another attraction in Minehead is the West Somerset Railway, a 22.75 mile heritage railway line. We found time to have a look and were amazed how popular it is and how frequently the trains run to Bishops Lydeard.
